Private candidates must register for the board examination by visiting the official website - cbse.nic.in and the link of the registration portal will also be updated on this page. CBSE does not provide any offline form for registration for private candidates, and therefore, students can only register through online mode. CBSE usually releases the private candidate registration form in August. For the year 2020, the online private candidate registration started on 26th August 2019. The registration process should always be completed within the allotted time, beyond which candidates must pay an additional amount as a late registration fee.

CBSE has increased the registration fee for classes 10th and 12th. The board increased fees for different categories. As per the latest announcement, the "General category" candidates will have to pay Rs 1500/- whereas "ST/SC" candidates will now need to pay Rs 1200/- for five subjects. The fee is applicable for both classes 10th and 12th. General category candidates should also pay Rs 300/- for additional subjects instead of Rs 150/- earlier.
